AMRS confirms 2022 Australian F3 calendar

A six-round, four-state Australian Motor Racing Series calendar has been confirmed for next year with Ben Taylor leading the frontrunners for the Australian Formula 3 Championship in 2022.

Despite the pandemic taking its toll on the AMRS group of categories over the last two seasons and border closures and lockdowns causing multiple race cancellations, category organisers are planning their return to racing starting in February 2022 and completing the season in late November.

Series manager Matt Baragwanath said next year’s calendar is all about catering for the wishes of competitors.

“We are fortunate to have an extremely passionate competitor base,” Baragwanath said. “Over the last two years, it has been frustrating when health orders have forced us to cancel events at the last minute, but at the same time it has also been encouraging to have such strong support within the motorsport fraternity. Even through the toughest times, our competitors have appreciated our efforts to keep the show on the road and next year is looking like the year where we can finally deliver what we have all been working towards – a full, interruption-free season.”

“I can’t wait to go racing again after being on the sidelines for so long,” said 17-year-old Taylor. “We put in so much hard work to get ready for Round One in March and it paid off with our win and being the fastest in qualifying. But then to keep seeing events being postponed or cancelled was heartbreaking. Now that we have a calendar for 2022 and it looks like lockdowns are in the past, it will be great to focus on a full season in F3 and to work with Tim and Terry again at Tim Macrow Racing.”

The 2022 season will commence with a day-night race meeting at Sydney Motorsport Park in NSW, before venturing to South Australia for a round at The Bend Motorsport Park in April. Other highlights include racing at Winton Motor Raceway on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in June and the grand finale at the Victorian track in November.

Other than the Australian F3 Championship, categories appearing on the AMRS program next season also include Super GT, TA2 Muscle Car Series, Thunder Sports National Series, the new Kumho V8 Classic Racing Series, Australian Formula Ford Championship, MARC Cars Australia Series, and each round will be live streamed by Fuzzy Media.
